There are other polyphenol type of molecules that are found in the plant extracts such as red wine. These include quercetin which is another of the polyphenols with huge oxidation capacity. Given that antioxidants take up free radicals into the polyphenol rings, the existence of several polyphenols structure has the advantage of increasing the saturation levels. This enables the combination of the antioxidants to take up more molecules.
These combinations of the antioxidants such as resveratrol and quercetin has been proved to effective in increasing the lifespan of laboratory animals such as mice and worms. The study of genetics has pointed to the SIRT1 gene as the one that is activated in the presence of these antioxidants. This gene is responsible for the growth of cells and therefore its activation will lead to improved cellular activities even in old age.
In disease conditions, these chemical will be able to improve the body functions. The enzymes such as peroxidase will be improved in function and this leads to better liver function. The metabolism of fats is enhanced leading to less fat storage and therefore a leaner body. Glycolysis and krebs cycle will function at par in presence of this antioxidants leading to higher energy efficiency. This promote regeneration of cells hence a younger look even in old age.
