First Steps To Getting Started In Cycling
Getting in shape does not have to be a pain. Some activities can actually be quite fun. Cycling is a good place to start. There are lots of different kinds of bikes to choose from. My favorite right now is a Schwinn mountain bike, though I have used other models. Once you get on your bike, head out to the open road for fitness and excitement.
Each different road type has its own special characteristics. Riding in the hills will be a tougher on your legs. Other terrain has other kinds of unique qualities. I have always thought that the best rides were ones on the coast. On some of those rides, the stupendous sunset views make the entire trip worthwhile.
Of course, you cannot become too distracted while on the road. Even in the face of the best sunset view, you have to remain aware of cars on the road. Auto drivers are often times unable to see cyclists (or so they claim). Keep an eye out for your own protection.
Fashion for cyclists really reveals your degree of dedication to the sport. Casual bikers, commuters, and kids tend to dress in whatever they put on when they wake in the morning. Biking is not such a defining characteristic of these riders. For other riders fashion s everything. Do you wear a red helmet or a black helmet? In some sets this choice can define everything.
On some days it rains, or some other interference arises that will keep you and your bike from hitting the road. On days like that, you can still get a good cycling workout at your local gym. Spinning classes and stationary bikes can fill in for the short term.
Your cardiovascular system and your breathing are greatly improved by cycling. It is an aerobic exercise and is also a good activity for calorie burning. It can help you lose weight and increase your stamina. Also, because of the cyclical shape of the pedaling action, biking is easy on your joints. Because it has few sudden impacts it is possible to continue biking very late in life.
Because of the repeated action of the legs, most cyclists experience muscle growth in the thighs and calf. Strong toned legs are a particular benefit of cycling as exercise. It is important however to stretch your legs at the start and conclusion of a workout. Failing to stretch can result in muscle pain.
In general, cycling is healthy activity that is lots of fun to do. Biking exposes you to the fresh air and puts your heart to work.
Try A Bit Of Excercise This Year
A lot of people out there have chosen to do a bit of excercise as their resolution to take in New Year for 2010. Which is the best form of excercise to take?
Gym
The gym can be a great place to go to not only to exercise but for help on exactly what you need to do so lose that weight or work on those muscles. There are always people around the gym that you can approach for help on deciding what you should do. However the major problem with this is that it can be very expensive and if you are not going with friends and are without an iPod you are going to be pretty bored. More often than not it takes a very large chunk of your pay away from you and on top of rent/mortgage and bills it will stop you from buying things you want.
Running
Running can be a cheap and affordable way to get excercise. To get the most out of the run I would certainly suggest you went in the early morning or evening as the air is nice and fresh. This can really help if you are not used to the exercise as it will settle the body in gradually. Many people do not like running and this is down to the fact that they are doing it in public and feel uncomfortable.
Cycling
Cycling is another huge form of exercise and there seems to be more and more people out there riding to work as the years go on. This is only going to grow further as people become more aware of the environment and the C02 omissions that cars let out. The only problem is that once again it can be costly. Look around for the best Zipp Wheels and Cycling Shoes as well as looking for the best bike like a Trek Madone.
There are so many other options out there to choose from such as weight lifting at home, swimming and you could even use the Wii. One of the best things to do is just go with what you think is best for you.
What Are The Best Sports For Cardio Vascular Fitness?
For those of you who don’t know CV (cardio vascular) fitness refers to the ability of the heart and lungs to provide the body with enough nutrients (mainly oxygen) for it to function during activity and remove waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid also. A CV system that is in good shape will allow an athlete to work harder and for longer periods of time. Sports like sprinting and discus do not work the CV system very much at all, as muscles do not use oxygen in fast powerful events. However, there are a good few sports that require the CV system to be working well. Lets take a closer look at 3 of the most demanding sports on the CV system.
Skiing. It has been proven that cross-country skiing demands more of the cardio vascular system than any other sport. This is because competitive events usually take place over very long distances and skiers encounter lots of different inclines to conquer. Also, cross country skiing uses nearly every single muscle in the body which means energy demands on the heart and lungs is very high. So if you’re looking to build your CV system, switch your snowboards for skis next time you’re on the slopes.
Cycling. Riding a bike, especially in competitive road racing, can cause the heart and lungs to work overtime as they attempt to feed the large leg muscles. The 7 time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong is testament to that, having one of the highest VO2 max scores of any athlete. This refers to the amount of 02 that the body can take in and the muscles can use in 1 minute. Based on that evidence, if you’re thinking about getting rid of your old cycling machine or mountain bikes, you might want to think again.
Kayaking. Despite the fact a kayaker uses their lower body very little in this sport compared to most aerobically demanding disciplines, his or her CV system still gets a pounding. This is because during middle to long distance races, the upper body and torso work so hard that incredible amounts of oxygen are required to keep going and muscle waste products are also produced in bucket loads.
