Carrying The Summer Health Routine Into Autumn

As winter starts to roll back around most of us want to hibernate. As it starts to get colder and wetter snuggling away under the duvet becomes more and more appealing. The chances are you’ve spent the better half of this year so far trying to get in shape for the summer holidays so it seems a shame to go through all that for nothing. Getting that dream body may seem unobtainable but keeping the exercise through the winter months can certainly help.

It can be annoying if your favourite sport or exercise is normally done outside. The tick is finding something fun you can do inside as well. There’s a good chance there’s something right on your doorstep. Local sports halls and gyms probably have a hockey team or basket ball team who practice indoors. If you don’t want to start something new your favourite sports will probably still play indoors somewhere nearby. Embrace the winter months and the sports that come with them. Skating or skiing at your local indoor centre could be your new exercise.

Once you’ve found something indoors in your local community take a look inside your own home. The treadmill is not necessarily the answer to replacing that early morning run. Investing in something like a vibration exercise machine could be the perfect solution when it comes to keeping your exercise regime going. These machines are small plates which you can stand on whilst they vibrate hundreds of times per second. These vibrations will help your muscles develop tone and strength. The beauty of the vibration trainer is that it can be used to either assist with your regular fitness routine or it can be used by itself. A vibrating plate will be more effective if they’re used in conjunction with something like a set of sit ups.

Staying Fit Through The Colder Months

Most of us have spent the first half of the year trying to slim down and get into shape. With the end goal of having that perfect beach body. Now you’re back from your so eagerly anticipated holiday and there are just long winter nights on the horizon. You’ve worked too long and too hard to get that amazing body to be put off by a bit of rain and some dark nights. Unfortunately keeping motivated is not that simple.

For good motivation you need some good mates. Whether it’s someone who practically lives at the gym or it’s someone you know you could talk into getting fit with you you’re bound to find someone. Strength in numbers is the best way to go when it comes to keeping your fitness regime on track.

Going for that early morning run was fun when the sun was already up. Now when you wake up it’s pitch black and pouring down with rain. You don’t have to go outside though, stick to indoor exercises. Invest in a new piece of exercise equipment to keep you extra motivated. Power Plates are very fashionable at the moment. As this machine vibrates your muscles vibrate too which will help them get toned and stronger. A vibration trainer can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home and eliminates the need to be out in the cold dark mornings.

Pick a new class to try. If you have a good look around you’re sure to find something to you whether you want to lose a bit more weight or tone up or just make sure you keep that beach body. Your local sports hall or community centre will have a wide selection of classes in the evenings and at weekends to fit around your lifestyle. Bending your body into impossible shapes may not sound as easy as the vibrating plate but it could be the perfect place to meet your new exercise buddy.

Combating Depression In The Winter

If you live a place where the winters are cold and dark, chances are that you experience some form of depression during the dead of winter. For some people, this is the result of a clinical condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder, in which the lack of light during the winter months causes symptoms of depression that are not present during the rest of the year

For people who have S. A. D., the symptoms are far more severe. But most of experience some kind of mood change during the winter. We tend to feel lazier, and want to sleep more. Because it is cold outside, we stay in the house most of the time. We crave comfort foods, which tend to be starchier and higher in fat than the things we eat during other times of year.

When all these factors combine, it is not surprising that we experience a bit of depression. Being cooped up inside make us feel trapped and isolated. It is essential to find ways to fight these feelings. Here are a few ideas for activities that can help.

Take Up A New Hobby

Is there an instrument that you’ve always wanted to learn to play? Did you buy an Alvarez acoustic guitar a year ago, but still haven’t gotten around to learning to play? Buy an instructional CD and get started! Winter is a wonderful time to begin on the hobbies you’ve been putting off. If you’ve always wanted to paint, buy some supplies and just do it! Make wise use of your time at home.

Get Out Of the House

Simply leaving your house or apartment can completely change your mood. You could go see a movie, go out to dinner or brunch with a friend, or go shopping. You could make a day of searching for the perfect pair of leather brown boots, or just sit with someone for a few hours in a coffee shop. The simple act of leaving the house and changing your scenery can make things seem better and more promising.

Get Some Exercise

There is nothing like exercise as an antidote for depression. The chemicals that your body releases during exercise lift your mood all on their own. Even if it is too cold to go out for a walk or jog, you can find many ways to work out. Find a video that has an aerobic or muscle workout routine you can do at home. Join a gym if you have the money to do it. There are lots of ways to get exercise.

Winter may seem dark, cold, and endless, but with a little bit of effort, you can definitely fight the ‘winter blahs.’ Distract yourself long enough with these activities, and suddenly, you will look up and it will be spring!
